Poem-Life of an Abandoned Self

LIFE OF AN ABANDONED SELF

Her house was in the wild woods

She sat in here hut

‘A hut?’

No.

Just a roof to protect her head

She sat there.

Spending the rest few days of her life.

Her clothes tattered.

Her eyes, brimming with tears

Spoke of distress.

Her voice faltering.

Her skin chapped.

She had many questions

About her life.

About her past.

About her fate.

Whose answers lay

In the mystery of life.

But there was a question

Which she always asked God.

Why did here own children

Abandon her?

Those children

Whom she gave life

Enduring great pain

Children whom she cradled

In her arms

To whom she taught

The first lessons of their life.

For their sleep

She spent sleepless nights.

Doing what they wished.

Accepting what they liked.

Why?

Why had the writer of destines

Been so unfair to her?

Why have her children left her

To survive on their own

With a fragile body

Which has now worn out.

Through the passage of time.

With no one to speak to

Or to lighten her heart.

No shoulder to rest her head upon.

Can she live a life in serenity?

Would her soul be able to

Rest in peace?

This is perhaps

The story of many mothers

Living the world over,

Who lead a life

Of an abandoned self.
